Universities in the WaterMatch Maker Program are participating in a global effort
to promote beneficial reuse of municipal effluent. Each university is working to
identify and add municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) in their area onto
the global WaterMatch map. The universities are contacting their local municipalities
to request that they provide Facility Profile information so that potential water
users can contact them.
WaterMatch seeks to leverage the tremendous power of social networking, university
networks and their local connections with communities to build a comprehensive,
global map of new water resources. WaterMatch offer the universities a way to build
water awareness with their students and allows the students to constructively engage
in their communities
What are the Elements of the WaterMatch Maker University Program?
WaterMatch seeks to leverage the tremendous power of social networking, university
networks and their local connections with communities to build a comprehensive,
global map of new water resources. WaterMatch offer the universities a way to build
water awareness with their students and allows the students to constructively engage
in their communities.
There are four steps:
- Step 1: Register - Adopt
a zone of engagement
- Step 2: Site Locations
- Identify municipal WWTPs in your area and add to WaterMatch Map
- Step 3: Facility Profiles
- Contact municipalities/WWTPs to help them fill in their Facility Profiles
- Step 4: Progress Reporting
– Provide updates on your University Profile on the WaterMatch Maker webpage and
through social media
- Optional Step 5: Hold a WaterMatch
Meet-Up Event on Campus – hold a campus event to raise awareness
on water conservation.
Future phases of collaboration could include hosting WaterMatch Meet-Ups between
municipalities and industries/agriculture in an area or contacting industries/agriculture
to promote the potential of water reuse in their operations.
